Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai is a fantasy drama, which is directed by renowned Tamil filmmaker Ram and stars Nivin Pauly, Anjali and Soori. The movie has been much talked about due to its unique story, different visuals and the music by Yuvan Shankar Raja, which is a collaboration between Ram and Yuvan Shankar Raja. It is also Nivin Pauly’s return to Tamil movies, following Richie.
The film was first presented internationally at the International Film Festival Rotterdam in February 2024, where it was one of the films in the VPRO Big Screen Competition. After a long wait, Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai made its way on to theatres on 1 October 2026.

Storyline and Plot
Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai starts with an unplanned meeting on a train in motion. A normal 32 year old man is encountered by an extraordinary being who has been around for some 8,000 years. This is an odd encounter between two people who are very different in age, experience and point of view.
As the journey unfolds, the film explores aspects of life, compassion, survival, relationships and redemption. The story’s setting is fantasy-based, with the character being immortal, but is also rooted in the experiences of an everyday man.
The train setting is interesting too; a lot of the story occurs on the train and not a typical fantasy land. The film’s official release material and production descriptions state that a rat is also a part of the strange chain of events.
The film isn’t a romantic or fantasy story, but attempts to make larger philosophical issues and emotions connect. The uniqueness of the concept, coupled with Ram’s unique way of storytelling makes the movie different from a conventional Tamil commercial entertainer.
